Between the Piceno hills and the Adriatic the distance is short, and for a couple that makes it possible to sleep somewhere quiet while staying close to the coast. In the province of Ascoli Piceno we have five verified properties, one in Grottammare and one in Monteprandone.
Five properties: Grottammare and Monteprandone
One on the shore, one on the hills behind. For both the page says whether minors are barred from the whole property or only from the wellness area, which is the distinction booking agencies never make and which here, on a very family-oriented riviera, weighs.
Ascoli town, the travertine and piazza del Popolo
The provincial capital is built in travertine and is walked: piazza del Popolo with its arcades, the cathedral of Sant'Emidio, the Ponte di Cecco over the river. It is an art town with little tourism, pleasant in winter too, and olive all'ascolana were born here.
The Quintana and the months when the province fills up
In August the Quintana, a jousting tournament with costumed parades, brings many people to town, and the coast is at its most crowded. If you can choose, aim for May, June or September: the sea holds up, the hills are at their best and the Piceno wines can be tasted unhurried. Winter makes sense in this province too, if you shift the centre of gravity from the coast to the interior and are content to walk and eat well.
