Sirmione is walked almost from end to end, and in the warm months a great many people do so at once. The peninsula stretching out on the southern shore of Garda, in the province of Brescia, is one of the most visited points on the lake: anyone sleeping here in a property without children is buying above all the hours when the town empties again.

Six properties on the peninsula

In Sirmione we have verified six properties, which makes it possible to compare instead of taking the only one available. The main difference to check on the pages is between those that accept no minors in any area and those that reserve only the wellness area for adults: in a thermal town like this the second arrangement is common, and it is not the same thing.

Grotte di Catullo, Scaliger castle and thermal waters

The Scaliger castle, from the thirteenth century, guards the entrance to the peninsula, and at the far end are the Grotte di Catullo, with the remains of the Roman villa, while the thermal baths lie a little before, towards the town. These are visits concentrated in a small space: they are done in a morning, better early.

Off the peninsula the country is hilly, with waymarked paths for walking and mountain biking. At the table, lake fish, cheeses and the local olive oil, accompanied by the wines of the surrounding hills. In summer the calendar of festivals and open-air concerts is dense: if you are after silence, take it into account when choosing your dates, because on such a narrow peninsula the nightlife is felt everywhere.
