Adults-only hotels in Amalfi

A quiet stay in Amalfi turns on a few metres of height. The port, the Piazza del Duomo and the Spiaggia Grande are all in the same spot, and there the town is crowded for much of the day: move upwards, though, or along the coast, and the noise drops.

Piazza del Duomo, and how to get out of it

The old centre is a weave of paved lanes and staircases, with the cathedral of Sant'Andrea dominating the square and the Cloister of Paradise inside the complex. It is worth the visit, but it is also where all the flow concentrates. The staircases climbing from the centre lead in a few minutes to an area where you meet almost nobody: that is usually where the quietest accommodation is found.

The Duoglio beach, more secluded

The Spiaggia Grande is the most convenient because it is a step from the centre, and that is paid for in numbers. The Duoglio beach, a little further off, has a different atmosphere and suits anyone wanting a day by the sea without the surroundings. The waters around the coast lend themselves to swimming and snorkelling, and boat trips are the simplest way to see the inlets that cannot be seen from the road.

At the table, the cooking of the coast turns on fish, citrus and seasonal vegetables, and the lemon delizia is the most typical taste of the place.
