Many couples use Sorrento as a base for the coast and for the islands, and discover that in the centre the evening promenade never stops. The town lies on the Sorrentine peninsula, in the province of Naples, and is one of the busiest destinations in Campania: choosing the room well counts more than elsewhere.
Sleeping outside the area of the bars
The old centre of Sorrento concentrates the cathedral and museums such as the Correale di Terranova and the Bottega della Tarsia Lignea, together with most of the bars and restaurants. It is convenient for sightseeing and noisy in the evening. In Sorrento we have verified one property without children: on the page you find whether the age limit applies everywhere or only in the wellness area, and it is worth looking at before booking.
Anyone wanting a restful holiday, and not just a base, usually prefers to stay outside the heart of the promenade, even at the cost of a few more minutes on foot.
From Sorrento towards Capri and the coast
The position is the real reason to stop here. From the port leave the connections for the islands, and the peninsula lends itself to walking and to days outdoors, with beaches like Marina del Cantone and Meta. The limoncello made locally is the easiest thing to take home.
On the season, the rule holds for all of coastal Campania: in the central summer months the peninsula works at full capacity, and the rooms that bar minors are the first to go.
