There is a fact to reckon with: the mountains in winter are, by tradition, a family destination, and in Valle d'Aosta the school holiday weeks fill the valleys. In the catalogue you will find thirteen properties checked by hand, in Aosta, La Salle, Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses and Saint-Vincent. They are few, and we would rather say so openly than make the list look richer than it is.
Thirteen addresses, different valleys
Aosta is the provincial capital and the region's only urban base, convenient for anyone wanting to move around by day without tying themselves to a ski area. La Salle lies in the upper valley, towards the Mont Blanc massif. Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses lies on the Great St Bernard road, in a small-scale alpine setting. Saint-Vincent, in the middle valley, has a long thermal tradition.
Ski weeks, and the alternatives
The calendar counts more than the place. The Christmas holidays, the New Year period and the February ski weeks are when the valleys are fullest. If you can choose, January after Epiphany and the second half of March offer the same snow with far fewer people on the slopes and in the hotels.
Summer is the most underrated season: paths, mountain huts and nature parks with mild temperatures and arrivals concentrated only in August. June and September are the months when the region is quietest of all.
In the mountains a reserved spa is not automatic
On every page you find which of the two policies the property applies: no minors in any area, or a hotel open to families with only the wellness area reserved for adults. In the mountains the second arrangement is more widespread than in the rest of Italy, but it is not automatic and has to be verified case by case.
The big booking agencies have no adults-only filter. With only thirteen properties, the advantage is that we have already done the check in full. If you want more choice in an alpine setting, Trentino-South Tyrol is the region with the highest density; for hills, there is neighbouring Piedmont.
