La Cianella

La Cianella is in località Podere Cianella, on the hills above Scarlino, in the Maremma. The property's website writes its position like this: a short walk from the medieval village of Scarlino, in a panoramic position at two hundred metres of altitude and seven kilometres from the sea, inside an estate scattered with olive trees. The Booking page adds the distances from the other landmarks: twenty-one kilometres from the Golf Club di Punta Ala, forty from Piombino station, forty-one from the port.

The accommodation consists of twelve rooms, one suite and two apartments, all different from one another, each with a separate entrance and a private outdoor space. In the units there are a patio, air conditioning, a flat screen TV, a fridge, an electric kettle and a private bathroom with bidet and toiletries. WiFi covers the whole property and private parking on site is free, with a charging point for electric cars in a reserved area.

The rule on age is written by the owners on their own website, and it leaves no room: it is an adults only property and young people are admitted from eighteen years upwards. The Booking page says the same thing in the block of children's conditions, where it says that children are not allowed, and in the extra beds, offered only to adults aged eighteen and over. The two sources agree.

The pool is outdoors and seasonal, looking onto the plain, and it is the only water facility of the house: there is no spa, sauna, steam bath or hot tub. Away from the water there are a tennis court and a five a side football pitch, table tennis, a sheltered store for bicycles and the mountain bike and trekking routes around the estate.

The food is part of the stay: a buffet breakfast, with continental, Italian, vegetarian and gluten free options, a bar service and happy hour, a typical Maremma dinner once a week, with land and sea menus, and tastings of the extra virgin IGP oil produced on the estate. The hot water comes from solar panels and drinking water is refilled free of charge at the bar.
