Description

The Familien- & Gartenhotel Theresia is at Glemmtaler Landesstraße 208, in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, in the Salzburg region. The house specifies the locality: it is in Wiesenegg, which is the quiet hamlet of the municipality, at one thousand and forty metres of altitude, inside a garden the property gives as two hectares and seven thousand square metres. It is a four-star superior, family-run house, which the website traces back to Theresia Gensbichler in 1948 and which today belongs to the Brettermeier family. In winter it is directly on the slopes and the lifts, with the entrance gate to the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn in front of the hotel; in summer it is on the paths and the cycle routes.

Children are admitted, and the very name of the house says so. Among its included services the property lists childcare from the age of three upwards, a playroom with no supervision, the teenagers' room with billiards, table tennis and a Nintendo Switch, the ball-games court, the playground and the sandpit in the garden, pushchairs, prams and child carriers, cots, baby monitors, toboggans and snow discs. The food is all-inclusive for children too, with the Early Start for families from eighteen and supervised lunch. Note a difference between two pages of the same house: the included services give childcare from the age of three upwards, while the website's general listing gives it from the age of two in the Mini-Club, with entertainment for teenagers in July and August.

Wellness, by contrast, is divided by age, and the division is declared precisely: the house divides its Saunawelt into two halves and for each one writes the name, the hours, the age and the rule on swimwear. The reserved half is the Textilfreie Sauna "Flüsterzone": "Öffnungszeiten: von 15:00 bis 20:00 Uhr. Nicht zugänglich für Kinder unter 16 Jahren". Inside there are the Finnish sauna, the Sanarium, the Sole-Dampfbad, the Aromagrotte, the sauna whirlpool at thirty-five degrees in summer and thirty-eight in winter, the cold water pool, the Ruheraum and the Frischluftraum. The included-services page calls the same half the Adult SPA and gives it as a Nacktsauna, that is, a swimwear-free zone, also listing the plunge pool, the sensory shower, the Kneipp footbaths and the fountain with organic juices.

The other half is the Textil-Saunabereich, where you go in wearing swimwear: "Öffnungszeiten: von 11:00 bis 20:00 Uhr. Zugänglich für Kinder unter 16 Jahren", outside the nudist zone, with an Aromagrotte, a Zirbensauna and a Finnish sauna. Swimwear, then, marks the border between the two halves: in the Flüsterzone it is not worn, in the textile department it is.

The rest of the Mountain Green SPA is open to everyone. The website lists the BIO-Naturschwimmteich, the natural bathing pond, the large heated outdoor Erlebnispool, the heated outdoor whirlpool, the pool for small children at thirty-two degrees with its lighthouse and slide, open only in summer, and the indoor Schwimmhalle; the general listing declares indoor and outdoor pools heated all year round between thirty-two and thirty-eight degrees, usable in the snow too. Around the saunas there are the Alpenfrischluft-Garten with the Gradierwerk made of local birch branches, the Ruheräume and the Wintergarten as a quiet room, the Massage-Pool, the fountain with Grander spring water and a Panorama-Fitnessstudio. The treatments of the spa department run from beauty to massages to medical cosmetics, with certified organic products.

In the kitchen the house works with organic certification and the Grüne Haube, and cites the Gault Millau recognition of 2021 with three toques and sixteen points, which it states is the highest rating in Saalbach-Hinterglemm; the offering includes vegetarian and vegan dishes and takes intolerances into account. The board is all-inclusive: a welcome drink, catering throughout the day, a coffee, tea and juice bar open day and night, a midday and afternoon buffet with hot dishes, salads and cakes, a five-course menu in the evening, with themed evenings, barbecues in the restaurant garden and fondue evenings, as well as the Cowbar 76 with its lounge. Drinks, wine and beer included, are covered during meal times in the restaurant.

Outside the wellness area the property lists wifi, free parking in front of the hotel, a paid underground garage, charging points for electric vehicles, free transfer with the hotel bus to and from Zell am See station with a minimum stay of one week, a paid laundry service and a guest laundry, non-smoking rooms and suites with oak floors, bed linen for anyone with allergies on request and the digital ticket for public transport in the Salzburg region. In winter the ski bus passes the door every twenty minutes, the ski pass is bought at reception and every room has a heated, lockable locker in the ski store, while the school and hire shop of the partner SkiLL are in front of the hotel. In summer the Joker Card is free and covers lifts, the hiking bus, guided walks, bicycles, tennis and minigolf, and the hotel lends trekking bikes, helmets and locks and has a lockable garage for mountain bikes with a bench and tools.

Dogs are welcome, with a daily surcharge, and the house devotes a whole page to them: an outdoor dog shower, safe access to the mountain stream on the hotel's grounds, a blanket, a bowl and a towel in the room, a fridge in the room for food, two dogs at most per unit and ten in the whole house. Dogs may be on a lead anywhere on the grounds, in the garden and on the lawn around the outdoor pool, and they are allowed in the Zirbenstube restaurant and in the Wintergarten family restaurant, while they may not go into the outdoor pool, the bathing pond and the indoor wellness area.

Frequently asked questions

Are children allowed at the Gartenhotel Theresia?

Yes, and the house is called the Familien- & Gartenhotel. Among its included services it lists childcare from the age of three upwards, the playroom, the teenagers' room with billiards and table tennis, the ball-games court, the playground in the garden, cots and a baby monitor, and all-inclusive food for children too with the Early Start from eighteen. The website's general listing gives childcare from the age of two in the Mini-Club instead, with entertainment for teenagers in July and August.

From what age can you enter the sauna reserved for adults?

From the age of sixteen. For the Textilfreie Sauna "Flüsterzone" the property writes "Öffnungszeiten: von 15:00 bis 20:00 Uhr. Nicht zugänglich für Kinder unter 16 Jahren", and the included-services page calls the same half the Adult SPA and gives it as a Nacktsauna. Inside there are a Finnish sauna, Sanarium, Sole-Dampfbad, Aromagrotte, the sauna whirlpool, the cold water pool, the Ruheraum and the Frischluftraum.

Do you enter the sauna in swimwear?

It depends which half. The Flüsterzone is the Textilfreie Sauna, that is, without swimwear, and the included-services page calls it a Nacktsauna. The other half is the Textil-Saunabereich, where the property explicitly writes "in Badekleidung", that is, in swimwear: it is outside the nudist zone and includes an Aromagrotte, a Zirbensauna and a Finnish sauna, open from eleven to twenty.

What stays open to everyone?

The rest of the Mountain Green SPA. The property lists the BIO-Naturschwimmteich, the large heated outdoor Erlebnispool, the heated outdoor whirlpool, the pool for small children at thirty-two degrees with its lighthouse and slide, open only in summer, the indoor Schwimmhalle, the Alpenfrischluft-Garten with the Gradierwerk of birch branches, the Wintergarten as a quiet room and the Panorama-Fitnessstudio.

Are pets allowed?

Dogs yes, with a daily surcharge, at most two per unit and ten in the whole house. The property provides an outdoor dog shower, access to the mountain stream on the grounds, a blanket, a bowl and a towel in the room. Dogs may be on a lead anywhere on the grounds and in the garden and are allowed in the two restaurants, but not in the outdoor pool, the bathing pond and the indoor wellness area.
