Via Vincenzo Mirabella is a narrow street in Ortigia: the house is inside an old palazzo, with windows framed by Syracusan baroque and a wrought iron railing on the balcony. Booking puts the Cala Rossa cliffs at 700 metres and the centre of Syracuse at 300 metres, and names the temple of Apollo, the fountain of Diana, the cathedral and the Maniace castle among the landmarks nearby. Catania Fontanarossa airport is 64 kilometres away. Ortigia is not easy to reach by car and the property declares no car park of its own.

There are four rooms, all doubles, with a sitting area, flat screen television, air conditioning and a private bathroom with bidet, shower and toiletries; the house also has a small terrace looking out over the sea. The interiors have been redone leaving the old walls and the white ceiling beams exposed, and the rooms have a kettle or a coffee machine. Smoking is not allowed.

On age the two sources do not say the same thing, and this should be known before booking. In Booking's children's conditions one reads that children are not allowed and that there are no cots or extra beds; the minimum age given, eighteen, concerns registration at check-in and not the age of the guests. The house's website, archesiracusa.eu, says something else: the availability request form has a Number of children field, and the rates page sells a third extra bed. That page, however, carries 2020 prices and appears to have stood still for years, while Booking's rule is the one in force on today's bookings. There is no wellness area and no swimming pool: the shared spaces are the house bar and the room where breakfast is served, Italian or gluten free, which in guest reviews is the most praised item along with the location. Pets are allowed on request and at no extra charge.
