Agriresort Murciano

Agriresort Murciano is on the Strada Provinciale 341, in open countryside at the Alimini Lakes, in the municipality of Otranto in the province of Lecce. These are the two coastal lakes north of the town, separated from the Adriatic by a strip of pine wood and Mediterranean scrub, and the property is about four kilometres from the centre of Otranto, practically at sea level. From the windows of the rooms, the house writes, you see the blue of the lakes and the green of the scrub: it is a country location with the sea nearby, not a seafront property.

The house is small by choice and has just three rooms, built with materials stated by the property: Lecce stone, wood, straw, rice husk and sand. Golia measures twenty-seven square metres, has the colours and materials of the earth and looks out onto the pool and the green of the garden. Omega measures twenty-eight, has spare lines and is the only one with a Finnish hot tub, a wooden tub outdoors. Maula is the largest at fifty-four square metres and has a bathtub that the property puts at the centre of the room's story. Each room has a bed and a bathroom.

On the wellness side it is worth keeping expectations where the website puts them, because this is a country property and not a hotel with a wellness centre. The list of facilities the house publishes is short and includes breakfast, bar service until 21.00, the pool with a whirlpool and free parking. The pool is outdoors, in the garden, and can be seen from the room where breakfast is served. The property does not state whether it is heated or in which months it stays open, so anyone planning an out-of-season stay should ask. There is no wellness centre: the website does not mention a sauna, steam room, massage room or treatments, and by our editorial rule that means they are not documented, not that they have been denied. Anyone looking for a water and steam circuit should ask for confirmation before booking, because here the hot water is that of the whirlpool in the pool and of the Omega's hot tub.

On the access rules the booking portal reports in so many words that children are not allowed, so the restriction is total and applies to the whole property, pool included. The official website publishes no figure: it does not state from what age you are admitted, and for this reason the listing gives neither eighteen years nor any other number. Anyone travelling with an older teenager should ask for written confirmation before confirming. On pets the website takes no position.

Breakfast is served in the property's restaurant overlooking the greenery and the pool, with international and above all local recipes, fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, typical cheeses and traditional cakes such as the pasticciotto leccese; for those who prefer to stay in the room there is also room service. Excursions are booked through the tour operator Salento Easy and range from boat and sailing trips and fishing tourism to horse rides and bicycle tours, papier-mâché workshops and wine and oil tastings, with guided visits also in English, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese.

It suits a couple who want the Alimini lakes and the beaches of Otranto with a quiet house behind them and no children around. It suits less anyone looking for a real spa, hotel services or the certainty of finding the pool open in winter.
