Description

The Boutique-Hotel Unterlechner is at number 23 of Reith, the hamlet that stretches above the village of Sankt Jakob in Haus, in the PillerseeTal, the Tyrolean valley between Fieberbrunn and lake Pillersee, at about 867 metres above sea level. In front of the house open the Kitzbüheler Horn, the Buchensteinwand with the panoramic Jakobskreuz, and, in the distance, the Loferer Steinberge. Fieberbrunn railway station is five minutes by car, the entrance to the cross-country ski trails one hundred metres from the hotel.

Adults only, from 14 years

The Unterlechner family has run the four-star hotel for over thirty years and is now in its second generation, with Andreas and Sabine joined by Christian and Nadja. The age rule is written without circumlocution in the website's frequently asked questions: it is an adults only hotel and young people are admitted only from fourteen years upwards. The same threshold appears among the important information on the booking portal, so the two sources agree and there is no ambiguity. The only stated exception, made with irony, is the owners' daughter, who lives in the house. The house also presents itself as LGBTQ+ friendly.

Small Wellness: a natural pool and two saunas

The wellness area is called Small Wellness and is avowedly compact. The centrepiece is the Natur Living Pool, a biological pool of eleven by sixteen metres, without chlorine, with water between eighteen and twenty-seven degrees, open from May to October and awarded the Pool For Nature Award in 2019. Beside it is the indoor pool of five by ten metres, filled with vitalised Grander water, kept at thirty degrees from December to March and at twenty-eight in summer. There are two saunas: the herbal sauna at 95 degrees and the garden pine sauna at 75 degrees, open from 14.00 to 18.00, with the possibility of heating the herbal one in the evening as well by arrangement. Completing the picture are the panoramic garden with a lawn for resting and a sun terrace, a private spa for two and massages, entrusted to an outside masseuse: it is best to indicate the day you want already when booking. The wellness basket in the room includes a bathrobe, slippers and towels. On the rule about swimwear in the sauna the website says nothing, one way or the other: anyone who wants to know in advance should ask at reception.

Table, rooms and services

The kitchen is the second reason people come here. The Esskultur restaurant offers a tasting menu of three to six courses from Wednesday to Friday, praised by the guides, alongside the half-board menu of the day and a bistro menu from 14.00 to 21.00. Breakfast is served from 7.30 to 12.00 and is not a buffet: it arrives at the table on a stand, or in the room. On Sundays the restaurant stays closed after breakfast and in its place there is a picnic basket included in the board. The rooms range from the Basic to the Classic Room and Classic Suite in alpine style and up to the Chalet Suites, recently refurbished. The wifi covers the whole hotel, with a weaker signal in the Basic rooms because of the thickness of the walls. The outdoor parking spaces are free, the underground garage costs 15 euros a day and in the carport there are two charging points for electric cars. Dogs are allowed only on request and after written confirmation, at 20 euros a day, one per room, in all categories. The hotel is open from mid-December to mid-October.

Frequently asked questions

From what age can you stay at the Unterlechner?

From 14 years. The official website writes in its frequently asked questions that it is an adults only hotel and that young people are admitted only from fourteen years upwards; the booking portal reports the same threshold among the important information. The two sources agree.

How many pools are there and when are they open?

Two. The Natur Living Pool is a biological pool of 11 by 16 metres, between 18 and 27 degrees, open from May to October. The indoor pool measures 5 by 10 metres, is filled with Grander water and is kept at 30 degrees from December to March and at 28 in summer.

Do you wear swimwear in the sauna?

The property does not publish the rule. The website describes the two cabins, the herbal sauna at 95 degrees and the garden pine sauna at 75 degrees, with opening hours from 14.00 to 18.00, but does not state whether you go in clothed or wrapped in a towel. The website's silence is not an answer: it is best to ask at reception before booking.

Can the dog come?

Yes, but only on request and after written confirmation from the hotel. The rate is 20 euros a day per dog, food excluded, and one dog per room is allowed in all categories. In the reserved area of the restaurant the dog may be brought by arrangement with reception.
