Description

The REDUCE Hotel Thermal is at Am Kurplatz 2, on the thermal baths square of Bad Tatzmannsdorf, the spa village of southern Burgenland that stands among the gentle hills on the border with Hungary, at 346 metres above sea level. It is part of the REDUCE Gesundheitsresort, the group of houses belonging to the Kurbad Tatzmannsdorf, and it is the one in the group declared adults only: a four star superior built around the waters of the area and looking out over the largest thermal park in Burgenland.

The thermal garden and the minimum age

The wellness area is the reason for the house and measures 4,000 square metres, reserved for hotel guests alone. On the age the official website is explicit and repeats the same sentence both on the page about the thermal landscape and on the frequently asked questions page: Adults Only, access is permitted only from 16 years, and the frequently asked questions add that the thermal garden is accessible to guests from sixteen years. The booking portal merely writes that children are not allowed, without publishing a figure: this page keeps the website's information, which is more precise, and gives 16 years.

Water, sauna and treatments

The heart of the spa is the indoor thermal pool, with massage jets built into the seats, water cascades and 105 loungers in the indoor part alone; from there one passes without going outside to the outdoor thermal pool, surrounded by a large lawn with flower beds and shade trees. There are then two hydromassage tubs, one inside and one outside, with jets activated by a button.

The sauna area is set out on the Roman model: tepidarium at 39 degrees, sudatorium at 45, herbal sauna at 65, laconium at 90, herbal bio sauna, Finnish sauna, frigidarium with water between 8 and 12 degrees and a sauna courtyard with a second cold pool. The fountains with the house's curative waters complete the route. The rule on costumes in the sauna is not published on any page of the website, so it is worth asking on arrival.

Alongside the water are the natural remedies the house has worked with for decades: peat mud, thermal water and carbonated curative water, used in the health applications and in the cure packages. The REDUCE BodyLAB adds the cold chamber and body analyses. The activity programme included in the stay offers yoga, pilates, water gymnastics, guided walks and e-bike outings.

Services and house rules

The food is at the Hermes restaurant, with a vital breakfast, a light lunch at midday, an afternoon sweet and a five-course evening menu, awarded the Grüne Haube and the V-Label. The car park in front of the hotel is free, with a garage subject to availability and charging points. Dogs are allowed at 21 euros a night, but they cannot enter the restaurant or the thermal area.

It suits those looking for thermal water, silence and a serious health programme without going up into the mountains. It suits less those who want the mountains: here the landscape is one of hills, and the rhythm is that of a spa house.

Frequently asked questions

From what age can one stay at the REDUCE Hotel Thermal?

From 16 years. The official website writes that the Adults Only rule applies with access permitted only from sixteen years, and it repeats the same threshold in the frequently asked questions about the thermal garden. The booking portal says only that children are not allowed, without giving a figure.

What is the thermal area like?

It measures 4,000 square metres and is reserved for guests of the house alone. It includes an indoor thermal pool with massage jets and cascades, an outdoor thermal pool connected to the indoor one, two hydromassage tubs and a Roman-style sauna area with tepidarium, sudatorium, herbal sauna, laconium, bio sauna, Finnish sauna and frigidarium.

Is a swimming costume worn in the sauna?

The property does not publish the rule. Neither the page about the Roman sauna nor the frequently asked questions say whether one enters without a costume, so it is worth asking at reception on arrival.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes. The website's frequently asked questions write that dogs are welcome at a flat cost of 21 euros a night, but they cannot enter the restaurant and thermal areas.
