Description
The Boutique Hotel Il Riccio is at via Napoli 85, on the side of Roccaraso that looks towards Pietransieri, around five hundred metres from the village centre and three kilometres from the nearest ski lift, the one at Monte Pratello. Roccaraso is at 1,207 metres of altitude, in the Alto Sangro, and from here Aremogna and Pizzalto are also a few minutes away by car. The property has been receiving guests since 2009 and has the style of mountain huts: exposed wooden roofs, spare furnishings, contemporary comforts and a wide green area around the building.
The rooms come in four types, all declared adults only on the website: the Comfort, the Deluxe of twenty square metres, the Superior and the Junior Suite, as well as the Riccio Loft. The shared fittings are a private bathroom, a television, oversize beds and free wifi. The hall with its fireplace stays open from eight in the morning to nine in the evening and is the hotel's real centre of gravity on winter afternoons, when tea time is served with the house cakes (drinks not included). Breakfast is a buffet from eight to ten, prepared with local ingredients and home-made cakes, and is included in the price; on request and for a surcharge it can be served in the room. The hotel has no restaurant and offers no catering service: for lunch and dinner you go down into the village.
No wellness area is on record. The official website names no sauna, steam bath, whirlpool or pool, and the property presents itself as a small hotel of rooms and breakfast, not as a wellness hotel: anyone looking for water and steam after a day on the snow should reckon on a different property. Among the practical services there are instead free private parking, outdoors and unattended, a shuttle service, a welcome coffee and paid late check-out (ten euros for each hour after 10:30). The whole property is non-smoking.
On the minimum age the website repeats the adults only formula on every room page without giving a number: the limit of 18 years remains the one declared on the booking portals. On pets too the website is silent, on every page: the ban that appears in this entry comes from the portals, and anyone travelling with a dog would do well to ask the hotel directly before booking.
It suits couples who want Roccaraso without the noise of a large hotel and without children in the shared spaces, anyone travelling by car who appreciates free parking, anyone who puts a home-made breakfast before accessory services. It suits less anyone who wants to sleep at the foot of the slopes, anyone looking for half board and anyone who will not give up a spa.
