Description
The Hotel Post of Kaltenbach is at Dorfplatz 4, that is, directly on the village square, on the valley floor of the Zillertal in Tyrol, at 558 metres of altitude and a few hundred metres from the valley station of the Hochzillertal lift. It is a family-run house classified as four stars, and it should be said at once because it is the point that confuses people most when they book: the hotel welcomes families, the wellness area partly does not.
The rule that concerns adults
Among its useful information the property publishes a blunt sentence: the sauna department is a nudist and resting zone, and access is not allowed to children and young people under 16. These are two facts in one, and both count. The first is the age: sixteen years completed, with no declared exceptions and no time slots reserved for families as happens elsewhere. The second is swimwear, which is not worn in the cabins, according to the current practice in Austria: you go in wrapped in your towel, which you then spread on the bench. Anyone arriving from Italy who does not know the custom would do well to know it before setting off, because here it is the house itself that puts it in writing.
What there is in the department
The wellness area runs over a thousand square metres and the house calls it the Post Pamper Oasis. There are five cabins: two Finnish saunas, a bio sauna between sixty and ninety degrees with coloured lights and aromas, a steam bath at forty-two or forty-five degrees with full humidity and an infrared cabin at around forty degrees. The circuit is completed by an open inner courtyard, where the heat alternates with the mountain air, by the silence room furnished with water beds, by the room of the senses and its sofas, and by the tea corner, where there are herbal teas and spring water. The saunas open in the afternoon, from 14.30 to 20. Next to them are the massage cabins and a gym fitted by Technogym.
What stays open to children
The water belongs to everyone. The indoor pool, with its underwater massage loungers, is open from 7.30 to 20; the heated outdoor pool has a solarium and a panoramic relaxation room, and in summer it opens at 8, in winter from 14.30. For the little ones there are the playroom with its climbing wall, the dedicated menus, high chairs and cots, as well as the family rooms and suites. The house also applies price reductions by age band. The offer is completed by the Die Post restaurant with its five-course dinner, the sChic bar, the Postalm for after skiing, free bicycle hire and a locked store to put them away, the sunny terrace and the free loan of hiking equipment.
Who it suits
It suits anyone travelling as a couple or with older teenagers who wants a village hotel, handy for the lifts, in which the hot part of the spa stays free of children for the whole of its opening hours. It suits less anyone expecting a hotel that is entirely for adults, because it is not one, and anyone unwilling to give up the dog: pets are not allowed.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Hotel Post in Kaltenbach an adults-only hotel?
No. It is a four-star hotel that welcomes families, with family rooms and suites, a children's menu, high chairs, cots and a playroom with a climbing wall. What is reserved for adults is only the sauna department of the wellness area.
From what age can you enter the sauna department?
From the age of 16. The property writes among its useful information that access is not allowed to children and young people under sixteen. No time slots in which the rule falls away are declared.
Do you wear swimwear in the sauna?
No. The house calls the sauna department a nudist and resting zone, as is customary in Austria: swimwear is not worn and you wrap yourself in your towel, which you then spread on the bench. It is the declared reason why the limit of sixteen also applies.
What can children use, and where is the hotel?
Open to everyone are the indoor pool with its underwater massage loungers, from 7.30 to 20, and the heated outdoor pool with its solarium and panoramic relaxation room. The hotel is at Dorfplatz 4, on the village square of Kaltenbach, in Tyrol, at 558 metres of altitude on the valley floor of the Zillertal, near the valley station of the Hochzillertal.
