Description

The Aktiv- & Wellnesshotel Bergfried is at Lanersbach 483, the main hamlet of the municipality of Tux, at the end of the Zillertal valley, in Tyrol, at one thousand three hundred metres of altitude, on the road that leads to the Hintertux glacier. It is a family-run four-star superior hotel, with three restaurants, the traditional Bergfriedalm and a Chef's Table awarded by the Gault Millau guide.

The house is designed for families and does not hide it: childcare for children and teenagers all year round, six days out of seven, a Kids & Teens Club of two hundred square metres open from 7.30 to 23, the Action Wasserpark of another two hundred square metres with a forty-seven-metre slide, the Kids Funpool and the pool for the little ones with its elephant slide, the free loan of pushchairs and child carriers and the baby package with a bottle warmer and changing table. Part of the wellness area is reserved for adults, though: the property gives as an Adults Only Area the outdoor whirlpool Over the Top, on the roof, and declares no minimum age on the website for getting into it. It is open from 13 to 19 in summer and from 14 to 19 in winter.

The World of Wellness

The wellness department occupies three thousand three hundred square metres. Among the saunas the property explicitly distinguishes the Textilsauna, which it calls the family sauna, next to the indoor pool, and specifies that children may go in there; for the others it publishes no rule on swimwear. The others are the Eventsauna, with daily infusions led by the sauna masters, the new Natur Galerie Sauna facing the infinity pool with its moss nests, the Tiroler Schwitzstube, the herbal bath at 55 degrees with its private niches, the Bergkristall brine grotto that atomises sea water and eucalyptus, the laconium and the infrared cabin. For cooling down there are the Kneipp stream called Nasse Tux, the ice fountain, the bubble pools for the feet, the plunge bath and a fresh-air room. There are five resting rooms, among them the one with salt stones, the Room of Silence and the Panorama Ruheraum on the third floor.

The pools

There are five water spaces. The indoor pool is seventeen metres long and you swim out into an outdoor pool of eight by five with a lawn and loungers. On the roof there are the heated Infinity Skypool of fifteen metres by five, the new Panorama Hot-Whirlpool of eight by four, which the property presents as a place for the whole family, and the relaxation terrace. On Saturday evenings in summer the Infinity Skypool and the Natur Galerie Sauna stay open until 23.

Practical matters

The accommodation ranges from the Lifestyle single room to the family apartments, to the alpine chalets of forty-six, fifty-four and sixty-six square metres, and up to the villa. The Verwöhn-Pension half board includes breakfast, a midday and afternoon buffet and an evening menu with choices. Every room has a space included in the underground garage, and there are four charging points. On the day of arrival the pool and spa zone is usable from 9 and on the day of departure until 13. Dogs cost thirty-eight euros a night, forty-five from December 2026, and do not go into certain suites, the restaurants, the spa, the pool zone or the lounger lawn.

It suits anyone who skis on the glacier and travels with children, and still wants half an hour of warm water on the roof with no children around. It suits less anyone looking for a spa entirely reserved for adults: here the reserved part is a single pool.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Bergfried accept families with children?

Yes, and it is organised for them: childcare all year round six days a week, a Kids & Teens Club of two hundred square metres, the Action Wasserpark with a forty-seven-metre slide, the Kids Funpool and the pool for the little ones, pushchairs and child carriers on loan.

What is the part reserved for adults?

The outdoor whirlpool Over the Top, on the roof, which the official website gives as an Adults Only Area both on its pool page and on its opening-hours page. It is open from 13 to 19 in summer and from 14 to 19 in winter.

Is there a declared minimum age for the reserved zone?

No. The property gives the Over the Top pool as an area reserved for adults but publishes no age threshold. Anyone travelling with older teenagers would do well to ask reception for written confirmation before booking.

Which sauna can children enter?

The Textilsauna next to the indoor pool, which the property calls the family sauna and gives as open to children too. For the other saunas of the World of Wellness the website publishes no rule on swimwear.
