Description
The Hotel Alpenhof is at number 750 in Hintertux, the hamlet at the end of the Tux valley, at around one thousand five hundred metres of altitude and a few steps from the glacier cable car, the only Austrian ski area open all year round. It is a four-star superior hotel run by the Dengg family, open from June to April and closed only in May.
Two wellness worlds, with two different age thresholds
This is not a property closed to children: the website has a section devoted to the family, with summer and winter for the little ones, children's rates, family suites and a games room. The division is made by the wellness area, and the house declares it precisely.
The Adults Only SPA is in the part of the building facing down the valley and the website writes that the area is accessible from the age of 18 upwards. Inside there are a twenty-metre sports pool, a wide Finnish sauna with regular infusions and a bio sauna, a whirlpool on the roof, a cold water pool, a natural resting room designed for silence, a relax lounge, a panoramic outdoor lounger zone, a bright fitness studio with a view, a room for yoga, a herbal tea station and a new department for massages and cosmetics.
The Garten SPA is open to all hotel guests instead, but the house specifies that the sauna zone is reserved for guests aged 14 and over, to guarantee quiet. Here there are the indoor pool of one hundred and twenty-eight square metres at thirty degrees, with the pool for the little ones beside it and under their parents' eyes, the panoramic whirlpool of thirty-two square metres facing the peaks of Hintertux, the Kneipp pool and an Alpengarten of a thousand square metres with loungers and well-kept lawns.
The saunas of the Garten SPA
There are seven: the Finnish Wilderersauna in old wood between eighty-five and ninety degrees with automatic infusions, the milder Alpensauna between fifty-five and sixty degrees, the bio sauna for families, which the house describes as designed for families and for anyone who uses the sauna clothed, the family steam bath with flower extracts, the radiant-heat laconium, the Kaiserdampfbad with single seats and two large loungers, and the rock crystal steam bath. There are three resting rooms: the family one, the panoramic one and the one called Fire and Ice. The pool department is open from 7:00 to 20:00, the saunas and steam baths heat up from 14:00, and in bad weather earlier too.
The rest of the house
There are a restaurant with extended board, a Genießerstube for more carefully made cooking, a bar with a cellar, a fitness studio and a sports hall, and a weekly movement programme. Dogs are always welcome at thirty-five euros a day, but they do not go into the dining room, the sports facilities, the Alpengarten, the pool zone, the games room and the relaxation department. The wifi is free throughout the house and the underground garage is included in the stay, with an entrance height of two metres ten.
It suits anyone who wants guaranteed snow and an adults-only spa inside a hotel that stays open to families. It suits less anyone looking for a mild valley floor: at one thousand five hundred metres, at the end of the Tux valley, the climate is what it is.
