Description

The Borgo Degli Angeli Resort e Spa is in via Passo della Pietra, in the locality of Rivotorto di Assisi, on the plain that spreads out at the foot of the hill of Assisi, on the side of the hamlet of San Vitale, in the province of Perugia. This is real countryside, among cultivated fields and rows of vines, with the outline of the town of St Francis in front: Assisi railway station is about 5.7 kilometres away, the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli 7.1, and the Umbria Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi airport sixteen, reachable by a shuttle from the property at a charge. Managing without a car is possible, but only just: here the landscape is the reason for coming.

How it is made

It is a stone farmhouse restored in the sober style of the Umbrian countryside, with beamed ceilings and terracotta, modern furnishings and large rooms. Every unit has a patio, air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a private bathroom with a bidet and toiletries, and the fittings include a fridge, a minibar, a toaster and an electric kettle. Some units have a whirlpool tub in the room. Cleaning is daily, and rooms and facilities for guests with disabilities are available. The rest of the house consists of a bar, room service, a garden with a sun terrace and free private parking. Breakfast is the point the property insists on most, with home-made cakes and local produce, and it is served as a buffet, continental, Italian or full English, with vegetarian and gluten-free options. Around it there is cycling, with e-bike hire on request, there are tennis courts and there is walking.

The wellness area and the pool

There is one pool, outdoors, with an infinity edge on the side that looks over the valley, with the lawn and sun loungers around it: in the evening it is lit and it is the picture this house uses to present itself. None of the available sources states whether it is heated or in which months it stays open, so out of season it should not be taken as usable without asking. There is no indoor pool on record. The spa is not a shared area that is always open: it is a private spa, booked and paid for separately on request, and for the length of the session it stays at the disposal of one couple alone. Inside there are a whirlpool tub, a sensory shower, a Turkish bath, a sauna and a fireplace. It is a different formula from that of a hotel wellness centre, and it should be understood before booking: anyone imagining they can go down in a bathrobe whenever they like will be disappointed, anyone looking for two hours with nobody else around finds exactly that.

The access rules

The property has no official website, so the source of this page is the booking portal, with the corroboration of the trade pages that publish it. The portal writes that children are not allowed and gives no minimum age in figures: the house, that is, does not declare from what year upwards one may sleep here. The eighteen years mentioned concern only whoever the check-in is in the name of. It should be noted that in the list of fittings on the same portal a children's play area appears, in contrast with the rule: it is a leftover entry, but anyone travelling with a minor should not read it as an opening and written confirmation is advisable in any case. Pets are allowed on request, with a possible supplement, in the unit, in the common areas and in the equipped outdoor area, with the owners responsible for any damage. Smoking is not allowed, parties are not held, payment is in cash, arrival is between 15 and 19 with prior notice and departure between 8 and 11.

Who it suits

It suits a couple who want the Umbrian countryside and the view of Assisi, with a panoramic pool and the chance to buy themselves two hours of spa with nobody else around. It suits less anyone looking for a large wellness centre included in the price, anyone who wants certainty about the pool in low season and anyone getting about without a car.

Frequently asked questions

From what age can you stay at the Borgo Degli Angeli?

The property publishes no minimum age in figures. The booking portal, which is the source of this page because no official website exists, writes only that children are not allowed; the eighteen years given concern only whoever the check-in is in the name of. In the list of fittings on the same portal, however, a children's play area appears, in contrast with the rule: anyone travelling with a minor should ask for written confirmation before booking.

How does the spa work and what does it include?

It is not a shared area that is always open, but a private spa booked and paid for separately on request: for the length of the session it stays reserved. It includes a whirlpool tub, a sensory shower, a Turkish bath, a sauna and a fireplace. Some rooms also have a whirlpool tub of their own.

Is the pool heated and when is it open?

The available sources do not state this. What is known is that it is a single pool, outdoors, with an infinity edge on the side that looks over the valley and the hill of Assisi, with lawn and sun loungers around it and evening lighting, and that there is no indoor pool. Anyone booking outside the warm months should ask the property for confirmation before paying.

Where exactly is it and can you bring the dog?

In via Passo della Pietra, in the locality of Rivotorto di Assisi, on the side of the hamlet of San Vitale, on the plain below Assisi: about 5.7 kilometres from Assisi railway station, 7.1 from the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli and sixteen from Perugia airport, served by a shuttle at a charge. Pets are allowed on request, with a possible supplement, in the unit, in the common areas and in the equipped outdoor area, and the owners answer for any damage.
