Description
The B5 Boutique & Design Hotel - Adults Only is at via Francesco Borromini 5, in Lugano, in Ticino. The site tells how the house grew out of the vision of the two hosts, Alexandra and Daniel Hahne-Saavedra, and that the design is by the architect Dario Franchini; the name comes from the location, because the hotel is at the height of platform 5 of the station. Booking describes it as an urban oasis in the heart of Lugano and says that the new B5 offers twenty rooms.
The types listed by the site are the B5 Loft, a junior suite, the B5 Urban, a deluxe double room, the B5 Nomad, a superior double room, the B5 Oasis, an accessible double room, and the B5 Bohemian, with a queen size bed. The FAQ page says that all the rooms have a modern air conditioning system and are heated in the colder months, that the WiFi is free and fast, that there is a lift and that the accessible room, the Oasis, is on the garden side, in the quietest corner of the hotel. Among the accessibility features Booking lists wheelchair access, the lower washbasin and the toilet with a higher seat and grab rails.
It is a hotel garni: there is no restaurant. Breakfast is served in the Salotto, with selected produce, and in the late afternoon it is time for the aperitif, with drinks and snacks in the Salotto, in the garden or at the bar. Booking marks the breakfast as Italian and among the most appreciated points. The Giardino is the green terrace of the house. The FAQ page adds that the hotel produces its own electricity on the roof.
For getting about, the FAQ page says that for guests the public transport of the Canton of Ticino, buses and trains, is free with the Ticino Ticket, and that the hotel has no car park of its own but that there are parking spaces and multi storey car parks nearby. Booking gives the railway station of Lugano at 550 metres and the Lugano-Ponte Tresa one at 450, the LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura at 1.4 kilometres, the Museo d'Arte at 1.7, Monte San Salvatore at 2.3 and Milan-Malpensa airport at sixty kilometres.
The rule on age is written on both sources and they do not contradict each other. The FAQ page on the site, asked whether the B5 is adults only, answers not exactly: the house declares that it loves children but that it offers an experience designed for those who leave them at home, and concludes that young people aged fourteen and over are welcome. Booking, in the block of the children's conditions, says that children of at least fourteen years are welcome and adds that there is no availability of cots or extra beds. The eighteen years that can be read on the Booking page are the age for check in, not the rule of the house.
Pets are not allowed: both the site and Booking say so. All the rooms are non smoking and the FAQ page specifies that there are smoking areas in the outdoor space. Arrival is guaranteed from 15 and departure is by 11; Booking notes that the property does not accept cash and that for bookings of more than five rooms different conditions may apply.
