Alunia Incognito Suites is on the edge of Pyrgos Kallistis, the village perched on the highest point of Santorini, five hundred metres from the centre of the village. It is a position that is worth the journey: from here you look down on the island, far from the crush of Oia and Fira, with Fira itself six kilometres away, the international airport six and the port of Athinios four. Anyone who knows Santorini knows how much it counts to sleep outside the two postcard towns and still be able to reach them in a quarter of an hour.

Eight suites, eight private pools

The property counts eight suites only, built according to traditional Cycladic architecture: whitewashed walls, minimal volumes, spare, carefully finished interiors. The fact that defines the address is that every suite has its own private plunge pool, outdoors, on the veranda with a view of the sea. You share a pool with no one, and that is the reason it is worth preferring it to a larger hotel.

The Superior Suite measures thirty-eight square metres and takes two people, with the bedroom on a mezzanine, a king size bed, a living area, a bathroom with shower and the sea-view veranda. The Junior and Senior suites follow the same layout. In the room there are air conditioning, a television, a minibar, a safe, bathrobes and a wireless connection.

It must be said clearly: there is no wellness area here. No sauna, no steam bath, no shared whirlpools, no gym and no shared pool. Massages are booked on request and are arranged in the suite. The service revolves instead around a dedicated contact who looks after guests for transfers, car hire, restaurant bookings and excursions, with room service, daily tidying and laundry.

Reserved for adults only, it is the right address for two people looking for absolute privacy and a pool of their own above the sea.
