Description
The Alpbacherhof Mountain & Spa Resort is at number 279 in Alpbach, that is, in the centre of the village, at around nine hundred and seventy metres of altitude in the Alpbachtal. Alpbach is the place where every house, the new ones included, must be built in wood, and the choice has earned it the name of the most beautiful village in Austria: the hotel is just below the church, with the meadows running down towards the valley floor and the Wiedersbergerhorn behind. The house belongs to the Best Alpine Wellness Hotels and the Leading Spa Resorts.
An area reserved for adults inside a spa open to everyone
The Panorama SPA occupies one thousand six hundred square metres and opens onto a panoramic meadow of seven thousand square metres, where you lie in the sun among the wild flowers. Inside, however, there is a part the house calls, without beating about the bush, the Adults Only Bereich and reserves for those over eighteen. In it are the Wiesenduft herbal sauna, with the scent of hay and meadow herbs between fifty and sixty degrees, the Tiroler Schwitzstube, the panoramic sweating room that reaches up to ninety degrees, the Morgentau steam bath, the infrared rooms, a rest room with loungers and the outdoor whirlpool facing the peaks. The times are set out: the infrared rooms and the rest rooms of the adults-only area open from 11:00 to 20:00, the whirlpool from 11:00 to 20:00 in summer and from 14:00 to 20:00 in winter, while the panorama sauna, the Morgentau steam bath and the Wiesenduft herbal sauna open from 14:00 to 20:00.
What is left for the others, and from what age
The rest of the Saunawelt includes the Finnish sauna, the Natur aromatic steam bath, the Swiss pine bio sauna and the Tirol salt bath, open from 10:00 to 19:00, plus the Swiss pine infrared cabin, the rest rooms with hanging loungers and the sound-vibration loungers. Note one detail, though, which the property states on its page for families: access to the saunas of the Panorama SPA starts at sixteen. Below that age the pools remain, and there are two: the indoor one with a panoramic view, open from 7:00 to 19:00, and the outdoor pool heated all year round, reachable by swimming through a sluice and with loungers at its edge. The house writes of itself that it is not a classic family hotel but that families with children are comfortable there, and it provides family rooms and suites, a free cot, high chair and baby monitor, a children's menu up to the age of ten, wellness treatments designed for the little ones, table tennis, board games and a reading lounge.
The rest of the house
There are a Beautylounge with massages, facial treatments and baths, a Longevity programme, a fitness room with Technogym equipment open from 7:00 to 22:00 and yoga classes in a panoramic room. The Day Spa is open also to those not staying. Dogs are allowed by prior arrangement and only in some rooms, at a declared rate of thirty euros a day rising to thirty-five from summer 2026, but they do not enter the dining room, the wellness area and the lounger meadow. The lifts of the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau are a few minutes away.
It suits anyone who wants a large, many-sided spa with an adults-only refuge inside it, in one of the most carefully kept villages in Tyrol. It suits less anyone travelling with small children and counting on the sauna: under sixteen you do not go in there.
