Description
The ALMGUT is at Liftstraße 166, in the hamlet of Oberbayrdorf in the municipality of St. Margarethen im Lungau, in the province of Salzburg, at a little over a thousand metres of altitude, in sight of the Preber mountain and a few steps from the lifts. It is a family-run four-star superior hotel that welcomes children of every age, with family rooms and hotel life open to all. The division, a sharp one, concerns the wellness side only.
The rule that concerns adults
In its answers to frequently asked questions the house writes that the Adults Only Wellnessbereich, from the age of 16 upwards, with nine different saunas, relaxation rooms and the reading lounge, awaits the guest every day from 11 to 19. The same threshold applies to massages and beauty treatments, normally booked between 8 and 19 and likewise from the age of sixteen. In the department's list the property then draws an explicit distinction between a nude sector and a swimwear sector, because one of the two infrared cabins is in the one and the other in the other: the sauna world reserved for adults is the nude sector, where swimwear is not worn, as is customary in Austria.
What there is in the ALMSPA
The indoor area measures a thousand square metres, with the garden on top of that. There are nine cabins. The ALMSAUNA is an open-air hut between eighty-five and ninety degrees, with mountain hay infusions. The Stollensauna, between eighty and eighty-five, is built like a mine tunnel and tells the mining history of the Lungau. The herbal sauna sits between sixty-five and seventy degrees and uses alpine herbs dried in house. There are then the Swiss pine sauna, the salt grotto at sixty degrees, the aromatic steam bath at forty-two degrees with a view of the Prebersee, two infrared cabins and the vitamin D station. Resting is entrusted to the silence rooms, the sleeping berths, the reading lounge and two tea corners.
What stays open to children
The water belongs to everyone: the infinity pool is indoor and outdoor at once, joined by sliding doors, with a ceiling installation that reproduces a Swiss pine wood and, outside, the view of the Preber. There are also the outdoor whirlpool, the wellness garden and the Kneipp circuits. Next to the pool the house keeps a swimwear infrared sauna, which it describes as the warmth recharging station welcome also to children who have stayed in the water too long: that is the part of the department families use together.
Practical information
Dogs may be brought by booking the Arnika, Bärenkopf, Schwalbennest and Waldhorn categories, at twenty-five euros a night. The hotel car park is free, a place in the underground garage costs ten euros a day. The rooms are ready from 15.

Frequently asked questions
Is the ALMGUT an adults-only hotel?
No. It is a four-star superior hotel that welcomes children of every age. What is reserved for adults is the sauna area, which the house calls the Adults Only Wellnessbereich and opens from the age of 16 upwards.
From what age can you enter the sauna area, and at what times?
From the age of 16. The property writes that the Adults Only Wellnessbereich, from the age of sixteen upwards, with nine saunas, relaxation rooms and a reading lounge, is open every day from 11 to 19. The same threshold applies to massages and beauty treatments, normally bookable between 8 and 19.
Do you wear swimwear in the sauna?
Not in the sauna world reserved for adults: in its own list the house distinguishes a nude sector from a swimwear sector, and places one infrared cabin in each of the two. In the nude sector the current practice in Austria applies, that is, you go in wrapped in your towel and swimwear is not worn. Swimwear stays on, instead, in the swimwear sauna next to the pool.
What can children use, and where is the hotel?
Open to everyone are the indoor and outdoor infinity pool, joined by sliding doors and facing the Preber mountain, the outdoor whirlpool, the wellness garden and the swimwear infrared sauna near the pool, which the house describes as welcome to children too. The hotel is at Liftstraße 166, in the hamlet of Oberbayrdorf in St. Margarethen im Lungau, province of Salzburg, at a little over a thousand metres of altitude.
